ACC Coastal - The Most Competitive Division in NCAA Football in 2009?

Certainly the ACC Coastal is going to be a tough division this year. But I don't think we can dub it the toughest until the season is over. We will need to look and see how these teams perform outside of the own conference against other BCS opponents.

Duke beat Vandy last year but Virginia got pummeled by USC. VT is going to have a chance right out of the starting gate to make a case for this ACC division when it plays Alabama in the Georgia Dome.

BTS Previews: All the buzz in ACC -
"This season might not produce a legitimate national championship contender, but that doesn’t mean the league isn’t getting better. For starters, recent coaching regime changes have made the ACC Coastal Division one of the country’s most competitive races. At Georgia Tech, Paul Johnson has what might be the game’s most extraordinary offense — only because in the age of spread offenses, running the option is so retro it’s become unique. While at North Carolina, Butch Davis is recruiting the caliber of athletes he stockpiled at Miami, Fla., which has quietly collected its share of blue chippers to once again compete for conference titles. Meanwhile, at Florida State and Virginia Tech, old school is still in session as Bobby Bowden and Frank Beamer and their 599 combined coaching victories are still pumping out winners."
